[/div][bg=4D0800] The setting is Floaroma Field. The sun is high in the sky with only a few clouds dusting the vast blue canvas. Starlys can be heard and combees buzz around collecting nectar. There's a slight breeze, causing the flowers to sway imperceptibly one moment and billowing in small wave-like surges the next. It's almost the epitome of calm.
It was very rare for Toliver to show much of any emotion towards any little thing, or big thing for that matter, that passed his way. Of course, there was always an exception or two to this rule of thumb. For example, flying-type pokemon had a special place in his heart where he held a particular disdain for them. Another exception were flowers in general. It wasn't that he didn't like them. He just didn't like them. Namely their pollen, something that always left him sneezing for the next day and a half.
However, his particular liking for open fields outweighed his disdain for the flowers. Despite the fact that his sinuses were going to strike back eventually, the bluenette was laying peacefully among the flowers, crushing several of them as he rested. His eyes were closed and, along with the flowers framing his face, it gave him a serene appearance. In a slight heap next to him was a backpack with a single strap. It was rather flimsy, only holding a few choice things such as his journal, his pokedex, a couple empty pokeballs, and a pen he received from his mother before leaving home.
Yes, a pen. No, there was nothing 'special' about this pen, not even sentimental value. It was a simple pen that one could pick up in a pack of ten at just about any store. But he rarely bothered with it or his journal. He wasn't much of a writer, not did he have the interest to write down things. But that was irrelevant to whatever was going on at the moment.
Curled up next to him was his ever-faithful Quilava, Xain. The two had been together since Toliver first started his journey. His flames were extinguished as of now so as not to light the flowers around him. That wouldn't be good. Not in the slightest. His red eyes cracked open, closing instantly once the harsh sunlight hit them. After a moment, the quilava blinked a few times, taking his sweet time to get used to the light. How long had they been lying here? At least an hour, no doubt. A small trill of disappointment came from the small pokemon as he rested his head on his front paws again. As much as he enjoyed breaks, this was just ridiculous. He wanted to do something. Anything.

There was a rustling in the grand yellow-leaved tree that towered over the otherwise open field. The branches seemed to twist in warp for just a moment, before falling silent for an even shorter one...until it...er...exploded. Like shrapnel, a large, bear-chested man in a green garb errupted from the unassuming tree, flying horizontally. His trail was marked by a large and explosive red scarf, tying a giant nail to his back and illuminating his arrival even further. He seemed to be but a colorful blur, the gold-tan of his skin making him almost look like a pokemon in flight...until he landed, his heavy boots coming down three feet from Toliver's prone form. The man seemed to exude energy and livliness, and his voice confirmed this as he spoke to Toliver in a happy and welcoming, yet loud and ham-filled, voice.
"Hail friend! The great ninja, Takamkahara Ishimaru, Hero of Kanto greets you! Might I request your assistance in a task most dire!? The People of Floaroma Town beseech you, as well as myself, the aforementioned Takamakahara Ishimaru, Hero of Kanto!!"

[/div][bg=4D0800] Xain's ear twitched. He could sense something was nearby. However, no amount of preparation could have possibly prepared him for what was about to happen next. The tree nearby rustled a bit and Xain kept his focus on the suspicious tree. It went silent for a moment - too silent. Then suddenly, the tree seemed to have exploded and Xain was instantly on his feet, flames alighted. This was the sort of he needed to cure his boredom.
A blur flew from the tree, and Xain was on guard. He glanced down at his trainer who somehow was peacefully sleeping still. Xain didn't know how on earth Toliver could be so trusting of the world. He pushed off the ground with one of his front paws, jumping backwards to avoid being squished by the figure that had jumped from the tree.
It was very difficult to scare, surprise, shock, excite, dazzle, astound, overwhelm, or otherwise draw a visible response from Toliver. However, as the ground vibrated beneath him and a loud voice rang out, Toliver sat up straight, eyes wide. What was going on, an earthquake? He turned to look at the man standing not too far away from him, very much bewildered. As he finished his speech, Toliver could only muster up one word.
"What?"

Takamakahar laughed hardily at the bluenette trainer, his hands encased in silver gauntlets and laid on his side. He looked down upon Toliver with fiery hazel eyes, which somehow burned even brighter than his golden skin. With a wide, toothy smile, he spoke up once more, his loud voice echoing throughout the empty meadow.
"Ah ha ha ha! I didn't mean to startle you friend! Allow me to explain in more detail! I am Takamakahara Ishimaru, the great ninja and sworn protector of Love and Justice, and I have been contracted to assist the denizens of this town with a very large dilemma. A large...hm...herd! Yes, a herd of Ursaring have been seen incoming to this area from the north, and are liable to march on the town within the week. I, being the defender of the innocent, have been enlisted to prevent this from occurring! However, I am in need of assistance in this matter-- afterall, even I, the Hero of Kanto, need assistance on occasion! So, what say you friend? You seem to be a competant sort of trainer, judgeing by the shape of your Quilaviarflosionquill...or, was it Tycynlava? Or...NO MATTER! What say you!?"

[/div][bg=4D0800] Toliver blinked. Confused was a terrible understatement for him. He pursed his lips and knitted his eyebrows together as he tried to make heads or tails of the man's words. The hero of Kanto? But weren't they in... Sinnoh? He glanced down at Xain who appeared to be just as bewildered as he was. Right then...
"Let me get this straight..." he began slowly. "You want me to help you... keep the town safe... from a herd of... Ursaring, was it?" The tone in his voice was disbelieving and he wore the expression to match it. "I don't think competent is the correct word to use for me." No, he wasn't a terrible trainer. After all, he had several fully evolved forms of his own pokemon. He just wasn't all that enthused about it.
And now that he thought about it, weren't Ursaring found in Johto? Yeah, he was pretty sure they were native in Johto - somewhere around Blackthorn, if he recalled correctly. And before he could stop himself - not like he would've tried very hard - "Why would Ursaring be roaming in Sinnoh?" He realized that saying it aloud make the idea sound even more preposterous. Then again... part of him was bored and wanted to follow this guy for the sake of doing something. The other part of his said no and begged him to decline and go back to sleeping.
A second glance at Xain had his mind made up. He should've known that Xain would be itching for an adventure of any kind. "What the hell, why not?" he hitched up his shoulders in a nonchalant shrug. What was the worst that was going to happen? At least now if something terrible did happen, then he could blame it on the guy with the nail on his back.
It was then that a new thought struck him. The guy had introduced himself as Takasomethingsomething. Meh, he was terrible with names to begin with. He'd just call him 'Taka'. Maybe not even that. Maybe he'd just address the guy as 'nail guy' or something along those lines. Whatever. What are we getting into, Xain? He asked himself, inwardly sighing.
