The Viridian City Pokemon Gym was becoming somewhat of a second home for its current gym leader, Blue. He had fallen into such a familiar routine here. Every morning that he was in the city, he would wake up at home, in his small, basics-only apartment. He didn't need anything fancy, only the essentials for him and his pokemon. He would do the usual morning things - shower, breakfast, new clothes. Then, he would sometimes head outside, take a walk, whatever he felt like doing before going to the Pokemon Center. It was here that he kept up with all of his pokemons health and well-being, as well as choosing his team for that day. Considering that he was the gym leader, and constantly in battles, Blue liked to switch up his team a lot. It wasn't a challenge for the challengers if they always knew what they would face up against, now was it? Besides, he didn't battle with one set type, he was all about variety. Switching up his team often only made sense.
Today, as he walked into the Pokemon Center, Blue was looking for a whole new line-up that he hadn't done before. He had used each of his pokemon, sure, but not in certain orders. He chatted a little with the Nurse, with whom he was growing familiar due to constant exposure as he selected his team for the day: Espeon, Umbreon, Blastoise, Charizard, Dragonite and Scizor. It was a team of his best and brightest, gathered from around the region which he had trained with for years upon years. It was hard to believe that he became a trainer some eight years ago; but here he was today, with all of the badges to prove it. He picked his pokeballs, attached them to his belt and headed over towards the Viridian Gym to complete the best part of his day: battling.
Gym battles had become like a way of life for Blue. They were so easy, so automatic and so fluid. He sent out his pokemon quickly and most of the time they were able to pick up on what moves he wanted them to use - especially his first few pokemon, Scizor and Charizard, along with his Psychic-type Espeon. He won many battles, was defeated by few, and handed out his prized gym badge to those who did manage to conquer his gym. Oftentimes when greeted by trainers who had attempted the gym before, when it was under different ownership, told Blue how he was strong, a lot like the previous gym leader. Despite the fact that Blue was well-aware he wasn't exactly the greatest guy, he did have respect for the man and being told that felt nice, especially after a long battle where he beat a trainer.
That was just like today - after his Espeon finished off a Nidoking with a powerful Psybeam, Blue shook hands with the trainer and allowed him to leave to head to the pokemon center and heal his pokemon. Another battle, another day. He didn't have any other challengers yet, so Blue hung around the gym, waiting for another challenger, or someone, to come by.

It had been a long time. That one thought echoed through Giovanni skull insisently as strode down the sidewalks of Viridian City. Nostalgia was not something Giovanni was prone to, but he couldn't help but feel a feeling of it as he viewed the lush greens and steel buildings from a childhood long past. He'd rarely been able to stay in Viridian for long since his...escapades, even while he was a gym leader. Too often did he need to summon a substitute in his place, and when he did appear to govern his gym, he never had time to do anything but before being called away elsewhere for some important business in Sinnoh or some other region.
But today...he was free from that. He'd decided to himself that he'd stay in Viridian for a day or two, to make up lost time. He walked with a smile as he recognized some locations. There was the small pond where he went fishing for the first time, over there were trees he had gone climbing up with his childhood friends, to his right was the small flower field where he had picked a bouquet for his first love. It was all here. In Viridian City.
But what else was here? Why, perhaps one of the most important parts of Viridian City. The Gym. His Gym. It was, of course, the reason he came here. Well, one of the reasons, and the biggest one at least. He had business there today. Ignoring the occasional shocked citizen who recognized their exiled and alligedly dead Gym Leamer walking down the street casually as ever, Giovanni made his way to the entrance of the Viridian City Gym. Nodding past the other denizens of the gym, he silently made his way to the center and spoke up at last.
"It's good to see you've been...taking care of the place."
