Having three sisters rubbed off on him, as he proved to be a very feminine boy. His talent for painting and designing clothes didn't help develop his masculine side either, not that he minded. Besides, his sisters always complimented him on his skill and even asked him to make them new clothes for themselves and their friends every now and then (he's designed and made about half of their wardrobes, including prom and wedding dresses), and if his sisters were happy, he was happy. Regardless, he always had one boyish characteristic about him- his love for bug pokemon (to his mother's chagrin); when he wasn't at home drawing or playing with his sisters, he was out in Pinwheel Forest with his bug pokemon friends. Burgh became particularly attached to one in particular, a sewaddle he named Hana, and decided to capture her and bring her home one day. At first, his mother flat out refused to let "that thing" in the house, but with some persuading, Hana became a part of the family. With the capture of his first pokemon, Burgh's passion for pokemon battles was born. He was constantly training, battling, and catching new pokemon (though he never left out time for his artistic side), and by his teens he was certain that he wanted to be a gym leader (and, of course, an artist on the side). Since a friend of his, Lenora, had recently become the gym leader of the Nacrene Gym, he had to go a bit further from home to pursue this dream.
