He prized his pokemon above all, treating his few friends with respect, but when he met Darina. It was a rather meeting, starting with a lecture how humans and pokemon should not be treated differently. After that, Emmery tried to seduce her with relentless flirts, but she would not have him until he learned about her. He agreed to live on her island with her grandmother. When each realized that they loved pokemon the same way, they fell in love and soon were married. It did not take long for a child to be born. He was smothered in love, given an egg at a very young age. Emmery was proud of his son, often talking about him to his other gym leader companions. Then with Sunnyshore City's gym leader's daughter Cynthia, they arranged a play date. There would be many of these to follow. His mother dragged their son in another direction, often visiting her niece. Gifting her as well with an egg, she returned many times, attempting to replace her sister who had died in childbirth. Whether or not this was successful can be determined by the toss of a coin, but one thing was sure Aglaia and Riley became close friends. As he grew, the egg hatched into Dahlia, a prissy Riolu. They were each other constant companions on the island. At the age of five, his aura powers arose. His mother was proud while his father somewhat feared the ability to read anyone's aura. Emmery had known about the possibility of powers, but he had assumed it only happened to the women after meeting his son's grandmother When Riley heard that Aglaia had run away, he asked his mother why. She chuckled and said she must have had powers just like he did. Without her mother, Aglaia must have become frightened and run away. After all, the boy had both his grandmother and mother to give him advice on his powers. Riley wanted to run after her, but Darina was was becoming sick. It was not long till her death. Emmery stopped working as a gym leader, letting Byron take over. Claiming some land on two islands, he began a mining business. He also dedicated himself to the breeding island, helping Riley and his grandmother take care of the Lucario and the rest of the pokemon. But Riley could not stay there forever. He was a wanderer and wished to travel on his own journey. Though his father did not understand his powers, he understood the feeling of needing to leave so he gave a pokemon It took five years, but he gathered all badges from the Sinnoh reason, going at his own pace. During the journey, his egg evolved into Rampardos. He also met his Breloom, Metang, Ursaring, and Mamoswine. During this time, he did not visit his parents or Cynthia, but after defeating the final badge, he wanted to see her again. She had a surprise with her. His little cousin. Delighted that his friend had taken such good care of her, he offered her an egg, the only gift he could offer. Riley wanted to gather badges in other area, but his father called him back. The mining business had taken off, and Emmery wanted his son to be a part. Riley reluctantly agreed, but he soon stopped when he realized the dangers pokemon faced in a mining environment. Taking the island his father had given to him, he stopped all mining and made it a pokemon friendly training ground. To help the slack his father's involvement with mining created, he helped his grandmother with breeding. In return, she assisted in honing his powers, reaching the pull potential of aura reading. The urge to wander arose again, so he did, obtaining a Torchic and fooling a Zoroark. Catching a Scizor was the greatest thrill of his life, but his father tried to bribe him with a poke egg. Riley took it, but he refused. He also refused an offer from Bryon to become the Steel gym leader, but the man denied and mentioned Bryon's own son.
